The PAL-2 calibrates easily and quickly just with a quick zero reference of water.
Small volume sample of 0.3ml is all that is required for accurate measurement.
After measuring, use a lint-free tissue to wipe the sample off of the prism surface. If the sample contains oils or fat, use isopropyl alcohol and water to clean the prism surface.
When not in use, keep the PAL unit in the storage case at room temperature (20°C). Avoid storing the unit in direct sunlight or in a moist environment and do not subject the unit to strong shocks or vibration.
All Refractometers are designed to measure the refractive index of a solutoin. The Brix scale is based on a sucrose (sugar) and water solution. However, since most samples contain substances other than sugar - such as salts, minerals and protenis - the Brix percentage repesents the total concentration of all soluble solids in the sample. For certain samples, such as cutting oils and other industrial fluids, a conversion chart from the Brix percentage to the sample's total concentration may be necessary
